leap day post

just had to get a post in before i go to bed tonight as it will be another four years before i can write a post dated 2/29. in honor of leap year/day, i forgot to put baking powder in the cornbread i made on monday and didn't put baking soda in the snickerdoodles last night. (i never leave out key ingredients; oh well, at least, it made good science experiments for the girls). to finalize the week i had to drive back to the children's hospital this afternoon because i left jake's backpack there this morning.

So what is to blame for this sudden rise in forgetfulness? Is it the extra day this year, the girls coming back, or just being a year older?

I'd like to know the results of these experiments. What happens to cornbread that has no baking powder and cookie with no baking soda?

Yes April, lets blame it on the leap day shall we. I forgot Emme had a half day of school on Thursday, (Tice did too) and she had to sit outside in the 20 degree weather waiting for me to come home form Target, and I also forgot I had my visiting teachers coming over on Friday and went to the gym at the same time time they came over.
Maybe we're all losing it.

Wow, at least it only comes once every four years. Did the cookies taste bad or were they just flat?

@ herb- yeah, i know, it sounds like i'm pregnant, right? but i'm not. i think i'm going to blame this on a really busy week. jake had three huge appointments, i had a primary meeting, grace had horseback riding, piano and activity days as well as catch up on schoolwork from being gone and lily and evan had playgroup (we skipped library class and gymnastics). the cornbread was made in a rush so dinner would be ready when we got back from horseback lessons and maybe i was more focused on having jake feel everything when we made the cookies since i was having him (along with others) help me. sorry for the lengthy response, but i gotta make it sound good.

@tice and elizabeth - the cornbread didn't rise and the cookies never spread out and were quite tart.

I've always wanted to have a baby on a leap year...I guess we've missed it for quite some time! And the photo shoot with the girls really turned out some beautiful pictures! Please tell Grace hi for me!

Those are adorable slideshow pictures of your kids! And I like that you thought to post because it was leap day. I didn't even think about that at the time!

quotables

"is that lily holding baby lily?" -lily's response when i showed her a picture of gracie holding her when lily was a baby.

"drama class is actually a lot of fun." -gracie (this is only humorous in that grace seemed surprised by how much she likes drama class. this from my child who we refer to as "a drama queen" when she is not around.)

"mom, you can go with my teacher and i'll stay home with japie and evan. daddy can go to work, and i'll be the mommy" -lily, in response to learning that she would be going to preschool next year instead of this year.

"mom, if you don't get rid of that smell soon, you're going to have to buy a new car." -gracie when it took me a couple of days to clean out my car after returning from a road trip.

"mommy, they have dress-ups for you!" -lily while walking by the prom dress section at macy's.

"i said the prayer "last"-erday." -lily's replacement word for "yesterday."
