today

today, i:

ONE - had the following conversation with myself:

me (noticing that i could still scrape out a little butter from the spreadable butter container i was about to throw out): "i bet that would taste good with those pretzels."
me (again): "but you're trying to lose weight."
me: "but it would taste so good."

(the butter won out this time, but i have made it to the gym the past two nights - so we're doing ok with the calories out, just need to work on reducing calories in.)

TWO - i got teary-eyed with pride while talking with grace at lunch. (yeah, i'm lucky to be her mom.)

THREE - started a project that corresponds with my word for the year. (post about that coming soon).
FOUR - made snickerdoodles with my kids and a couple of their friends. (again, need to work on calories in.) p.s. snickerdoodles ended up being a great activity for the little ones as i would just hand them little balls of dough for them to roll in the cinammon and sugar.

FIVE - got hit in the nose with a wet snowball by a four year old with amazingly good aim. (she had just nailed me in the back with the previous snowball she threw. those were actually the only two snowballs thrown as i was shoveling the driveway and made a rule of no throwing snowballs at someone whose working - plus with that record i didn't feel like being her target.)

SIX - took pics of my new "do." my friend, angela, cut my hair last friday, and, i must say i'm thrilled with it.

I love the new haircut! The hersheys kisses won the battle against my resolve yesterday.

Angela does excellent work! You are looking hot mama! Sounds like you had a very eventful day.
ps; The butter can win every once in a while. :)

april, i saw on amanda's blog that you had just updated, so i clicked over to look . . . your hair looks great, i hope your nose is ok, and i don't know if i ever told you, but your banner photo is my very very favorite photo from my CT sessions. i love it, and although i don't know you or your family well, it seemed to have captured everyone in their element. anyway, you have a beautiful family and i hope all is well!

Love your do! I grew up with short-haired women all over the place. Elizabeth always makes fun of me when I point out a good looking short haircut on a woman!

I'm having the same problem (calories in vs out). We've been exercising for four weeks almost every day now, but it seems I'm still able to "justify" a snack after the kid are in bed....

I love love love your haircut! But you know that I am a firm supporter of short-haired girls. All the MN Hinckleys are. I even had short hair in Jr. and High School when it was terribly un-cool. And by the way I think Grace is at the absolute perfect age for a girl -- girls her age are my favorite humans because they believe everything is possible, and they just emanate girl power and smarts. I miss having them.

Way to be bold with your new haircut! Feels fun, doesn't it? And it sounds like you had such an amazing day...and way to go for making it to the gym twice. With four kids, that's equivalent to going there twice a day every day. :)

Chop chop. Short hair is the way to go! I just chopped mine a few months ago and I'm so happy with it! You look great...don't you love how easy it is to style?!

ps. I know I'm late to the party, but I'm working on one of your blog post suggestions and linked over to you and saw your new hair.

quotables

"is that lily holding baby lily?" -lily's response when i showed her a picture of gracie holding her when lily was a baby.

"drama class is actually a lot of fun." -gracie (this is only humorous in that grace seemed surprised by how much she likes drama class. this from my child who we refer to as "a drama queen" when she is not around.)

"mom, you can go with my teacher and i'll stay home with japie and evan. daddy can go to work, and i'll be the mommy" -lily, in response to learning that she would be going to preschool next year instead of this year.

"mom, if you don't get rid of that smell soon, you're going to have to buy a new car." -gracie when it took me a couple of days to clean out my car after returning from a road trip.

"mommy, they have dress-ups for you!" -lily while walking by the prom dress section at macy's.

"i said the prayer "last"-erday." -lily's replacement word for "yesterday."
